Tuckahoe Respite program strives to help families care for a developmentally disabled relative by providing short term, planned respite services.
Our facility built in 1997 on the grounds of Camp Sun 'N Fun in Williamstown, NJ, can accommodate those who may be medically frail or non-ambulatory. The 4,200 square foot rancher is equipped with extra wide halls and curved walls to allow for better wheelchair mobility. Bathrooms are fitted with special showers and bathtubs to accommodate wheelchairs and Hoyer lifts.
The Tuckahoe Respite House is designed to provide guests with a memorable and enjoyable stay. The decor is home-like, and during their stay guests may be escorted on outings to restaurants, movies and local sites like Washington Lake Park or the New Jersey State Aquarium.
Tuckahoe's services are open year round, seven days per week, twenty-four hours per day.
Requests for admission to Tuckahoe Respite Program should be made through the service recipient's case manager or by calling the Southern Regional Office of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) 856-770-5900.
To qualify for admission, individuals served must be more than 5 years of age, of no physical threat to themselves or others, and eligible for services through DDD.
After a family is approved for respite services by DDD, someone from Tuckahoe House will schedule an intake interview at the individuals present living arrangement to determine the specific needs of the family and family members.
DDD allots families an average of 24 days of respite per year. Individual respite stays may range from overnight to two weeks at a time, and may be scheduled on a planned or an emergency basis. Families must provide their own transportation to and from the program.
Once DDD forwards the family's scheduling request to Tuckahoe House, we will make every effort to accommodate the request. However, due to the intensity of the needs of different individuals, we may not always be able to fulfill the family's first scheduling choice.
